2ft high-Planets (Review) The Pitz Milton Keynes 25 Apr 08

Bluefoot (8pm-8:30)
Vindiction (8:45-9:15)
Eyelash (9:30-10pm)
2ft High (Planets) (10:15-11pm)

This was the line-up at the Pitz on Friday 25th April. I was interested in seeing 2ft High after having met with the lead singer Fred. As well as playing at the Pitz Fred works there. That's where we met and that's where he first told me about 2ft High. It is to be noted that from Friday they announced they are now to be known as Planets. Due to their ascent into manhood 2ft High is no longer an appropriate title. Having an interest in local acts, I wanted to see these boys, especially once he'd told me their age range was kicking around the seventeen mark. After work I got home and took a shower, caught up on some well needed rest then headed off. I had the choice of either getting there for 8 and turning up like a zombie or arriving nice and refreshed, prepared for a possible 2ft High interview.

I got there for 9:30 just in time to see Eyelash kick off. This is a London based group consisting of two guys and three girls. Like the two bands before they had an half hour set which was all Rock based. The girls were quite lively. The singer was dancing round the guitarist and later between songs decked him and had him pinned on all fours. I haven't heard of them before but they had the crowd going, which last night was a good size. I was wondering whether the atmosphere had something to do with the girls in the band. Glancing a look at the lads, I could see their mouths ajar and their eyes focused, more on the girls figures than say maybe the chord changes they were making. I don't know, the youngsters of today.

Eyelash were finished by 10 which gave 2ft High 15mins to set up. The crowd loved these young lads and from the start to the finish the crowd cheered. Their sound ranged from Ska to Black Metal, from Rock to Hip Hop but mostly it rested on what I thought was a Black Metal kinda sound. It might be easier to call their set a Rock alternative experience. Although Coldplay are considered Rock alternative, their sound is heavier than Coldplay. On Friday they announced their new name and presented to the crowd the new bass player Simon. Although I preferred their moments of Ska which wasn't many, I can see why the crowd liked these guys. During and after the show there was merchandise onsale. I did get an interview with 2ft High (Planets). So here's what i've learned

2ft High interview
In 2003 the band formed with Ben (guitarist) Fred (Singer) Paul (Bass) and Ivan (drums) but two months ago paul was replaced by Simon on bass . I asked them about their new band name (Planets) seeing as though that's the name they will be now known. Simon said "whilst very drunk" he came up with the name. The reason for the name they said has something to do with escapism and that we all as individuals are like planets, having unmeasurable depths. They write all songs as a single unit. They said If they sound like anyone its 'Refused' and the easiest way to describe their music is 'Alternative Rock'. Between the band at the moment their listening to the likes of: Rage, Refuse, Muse, Radiohead, Circa Survive and Ghost of a Thousand. I asked them what inspires them to write and perform, they said it just feels right doing what they're doing. If they could record an album with anyone (alive or dead) it would have to be with the Beatles, Hendrix or Eric Clapton. I asked who was the craziest in the band, they laughed saying "they were all crazy, although Simon probably has the edge because of his urge to get naked now and again, literally anywhere". Do you have any bad habits I asked, they said "they'd like to cut down a bit on smoking, drinking and the old ganga'" oh and just for kicks either Ben or Simon, probably Simon likes to fart in his hand and throw it in people's face. Their most proud of their album which they recorded and mixed themselves, Simon wanted to mention that he was most proud of single handedly winning the pee-wee football tournament when he was a kid. Their Album 'Lost in our own time' is available from their website: www.2fthigh.co.uk. They can also be found on myspace and you tube.
