A Full Nelson |
Travis Nelson has become Michael New’s third addition to his Milton Keynes Lions roster ahead of the 2010/11 season.
The 6’11”American comes with a high pedigree following a stellar season with Minnesota State where he averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds on the way to being named an NABC All American Nelson, 23, is a graduate of Minnesota but also played two years at Wyoming in his college career.. The 250Ib player shot 57 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line whilst helping his team to a 25-5 record. Lions’ Head Coach Michael New commented, “I think Travis will fit in very well with what we are trying to do, he had an extremely successful time in college, he bangs in and around the paint whilst also having a deft touch outside for such a big man and runs the floor extremely well, it’s amazing to think his stats came in only 20 minutes of action each game”. Nelson will be making his first foray into professional basketball after completing his college career. Lions Chief Executive expects the centre to receive a warm welcome, “I think in Nelson we have someone with a work ethic that is right out of the blue collar dictionary, he battles hard every night but will also change shots night in night out on the defensive end” Nelson joins Kris Clark and Stefan Gill on this year’s much changed roster with more announcements expected later in the week. The Lion’s will be in pre-season action on Sunday 12th September at Stantonbury Campus against Team US Select ahead of the first BBL home game of the season which will be on Sunday the 26th of September when they face the Leicester Riders at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
