The last recorded attack was against a 19 year old man, near the John Lewis store on Sunday February 17th. The gang asked him for a cigarette before they robbed him. In the atmosphere of public scepticism against police interest in solving real crime, Det Chief Inspector Ray Summers has assured the public that these crimes, like all robberies are being taken seriously and that these three crimes are being investigated. In spite of rising violent crime rates, the police urge us not to be alarmed. We wouldn’t want to blame the police for all this crime. We know they have a government to please, targets to meet and forms to fill in- who says that, well quite a lot of disgruntled policemen officers. Quite a few of them seem to be up at the Bottledump watching out for the gays, as we have already reported. The fact is that burglaries and robberies have a low clear up rate because there are too many of them and many criminals are just not officially here. |
