Arriva Bus Fire - Whitchurch Bucks

ariva bus fire radioed in that he had a fault with his morning service bus to Buckingham, he was told to carry on.  He just made it into Whitchurch and the bus burst into flames.  The fire was so intense that it destroyed the road surface and seriously damaged the bus shelter.
There was so little left of the bus that it is proving hard to establish the cause.  One possibility is that a belt was rubbing and overheating.  Fortunately the bus was not carrying passengers.
Arriva are the current owners and operators of MK Metro and one of the major British Bus groupings.

If you want to know more  about the history of Buses in the Milton Keynes/ Buckingham/ Aylesbury area, read The United Counties Story by Robert Cook and Andrew Shouler, and The Red Rover Story by Robert Cook- published by Tempus Publishing ( part of The History Press group ).  These are not really books for bus nerds, but they tell the story from the peoples point of view. Read about the rise and fall of two great English Bus Companies, as Thatcher’s policies organised privatisation, laying the foundations for the bus operators that we have today.
