ASBO issued against shoplifter – Milton Keynes |
Patricia Smith, aged 26, of Fuller Slade was issued with the ASBO at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court on 3 July.Smith was in court for theft offences and possession of a bladed instrument, for which she received a suspended custodial sentence, supervision requirements and a residential drugs rehabilitation programme for six months. Smith was also given an ASBO banning her from Central Milton Keynes Shopping Centre unless she is travelling to a pre-arranged drug counselling appointment. She is also banned from entering areas of Wolverton and Stony Stratford. PC Dave Goodwin, anti-social behaviour officer, said: “Smith’s offending is directly related to her drug dependency and it is hoped that her residential treatment will assist with her addiction. “The ASBO is in place to protect those areas she has been most prolific in. It is now up to Smith to sort herself out - if she breaches the ASBO, she will be placed before the court and asked to explain why. If she deals with her addiction, hopefully the offending will stop.” The court found that Smith is a prolific offender with over 36 convictions of theft since 2003. Many of these offences were committed in the Wolverton and Stony Stratford area of Milton Keynes. Smith admitted in court that her offending has caused distress and harassment to staff members at the shops she has stolen from. |
