Det Sgt Nick Glister, from Milton Keynes, who is dedicated to tackling burglary, wants to remind residents about how they can best protect their home from becoming a target for burglars.

Det Sgt Glister, said: “When a home is broken into and personal items are stolen, it often affects the home owners and their families on a financial and emotional level. Police in Milton Keynes strive to offer the victims of crime the best possible service and have a team of officers within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) dedicated to the investigation of burglary offences.

“There are a variety of investigation methods that are undertaken, supported by the Scenes of Crime department and neighbourhood teams amongst others. This often leads to the identification and arrest of suspected offenders and recovery of property.

“The items generally taken from burglary offences are those of high value which can be easily sold on, such as jewellery, laptop computers and games consoles. To assist in the identification of such items the following points should be considered:

1.Record all serial and model numbers

2.Security mark personal items

3.Photograph personal items

4.Store high value jewellery in areas not easily accessible and not obvious such as drawers, jewellery boxes etc.

“For advice and assistance please contact the Milton Keynes Crime Reduction department on 0845 8 505 505 or visit thamesvalley.police.uk and follow the links to identify your local neighbourhood team or can arrange to visit you to give your further information and advice.”
