Boffoonery!, a comedy benefit performed to a sold-out audience at The Bloomsbury Theatre on Nov 3rd 2009 to celebrate WWII codebreaking centre Bletchley Park, is released as a digital audio download this summer.

The download features hilarious high-brow sketches and a comedy quiz about “all things Bletchley Park” chaired by Red Dwarf’s Robert Llewellyn. The impressive line-up includes Punt & Dennis, Richard Herring, Robin Ince, John Finnemore, Laurence & Gus, science TV legends Maggie Philbin and Johnny Ball, James Bachman, Margaret Cabourn-Smith and Bletchley Park supporter Stephen Fry. On the night, the audience was also treated to stand-up from Dave Gorman, and a demonstration of an Enigma encryption machine by mathematician Simon Singh.
The show is the brainchild of the writer of hit BBC Radio 4 sitcom “Hut 33”, James Cary, and software development consultant Jason Gorman, who coaches programmers working on the BBC iPlayer. He is also organising the “Work4Bletchley” campaign, which aims to encourage people to donate a day’s pay to the Bletchley Park Trust on Sept 16th. The show was directed by David Tyler, co-founder of Pozzitive Television, and produced for the stage by Bethan Richards.
All profits from digital downloads will go directly to the Bletchley Park Trust and provide vital funds to fulfil plans to transform the heritage site into a world-class visitor attraction and education centre.
Spurred on by the success of Boffoonery!, Jason is now planning a sequel, “Boffoonery! 2.0”, for early 2011. |
