Computer Maintenance and Repairs

Everybody knows how important your computer can be these days, whether it's your home PC or your work computer, maybe you work from home on your computer. Either way, nearly everyone uses a computer everyday and from time to time they all need a bit of computer maintenance. When something goes wrong with your computer it can be very stressful, especially as most of us don't have a clue how to fix a computer and attempting to do it yourself without the right knowledge can be an increasingly stressful spiral. Computers do what you tell them to do, not what you want them to do.

If you have fairly regular computer maintenance carried out, it should usually eradicate the need for computer repair because the maintenance will ensure that the computer is running smoothly and therefore errors are less likely to occur, in both hardware and software.
You can usually tell if you have a hardware error as you will hear strange noise coming from your computer or it just won't switch off. Hardware problems are more severe than software errors and usually more costly. Software problems can normally be solved by re-installing Windows or whatever operating system you use. Or sometimes it can be a very simple fix.

Computer maintenance with both hardware or software should be carried out by a professional roughly once every six months. Also you can carry out computer maintenance every time you use your computer, this may sound like hard work but it is just a case of keeping things tidy and organised. When creating or saving new files and folders, try to keep them as organised as possible, scattering things all over the place can put your computer under more stress, organisation of your files will help to run things as efficiently as possible. Have you heard of a disk defragmenter? This tool which comes as standard with most operating systems goes through all files (storage segments) on your hard drive and organises them neatly, this makes your hard drive more efficient by saving it the work of having to scan its entire memory for different segments of files which could be all in one place. The disk defragmenter puts fragments of files together in one place to save your hard drive extra work.

An important thing to do on a regular basis is to make a backup of important files on your computer, save this backup on a CD, DVD or portable hard drive of some sort, separate from your main computer. This means that if one day your computer goes boom, then you will have a safely stored record of all your important information. If a computer breaks either hardware or software, then it can be repaired by a computer maintenance and repair specialist but the recovery of your information and files is far from guaranteed.
