Find it...Fix it...Film it...Feel Good With ITV! |
ITV Fixers is a major multi-media campaign in the ITV Meridian, Thames Valley and West regions supporting young people (16 - 25) to take action on any issue they feel strongly about - changing things for the better. The initiative combines broadcast news items with user generated content and speciallycreated short films. Young people come up with an idea for a project that will be useful to others - it’s up to them what they choose to do. Already a number of young people are planning projects to tackle racism, homophobic bullying, and the lack of recycling facilities. Some of the ITV Fixers’ projects will be filmed for broadcast and shown on the early evening news in four ITV news regions – Meridian South and East, Thames Valley and West. Each group of ITV Fixers will also make their own short film. Some teams will do so on their own – creating a three minute film summing up their project and how they have helped to change or “fix” things. Others will work with a dedicated New Media team who specialise in making films for online. The team can provide help every step of the way – giving advice, taking broadcast quality kit out on location, supporting the young people as they shoot their film, and helping with editing. The results will be shown on a dedicated channel as part of ITV Local – www.itvlocal.com/itvfixers - currently under development. The channel provides a platform for young people and their ideas, and complements the television items which will show a mainstream broadcast audience what young people really care about and are capable of. If you are a young person aged 16 – 25 with an idea for something you’d like to “fix” then ring the team on 01962 670370. And if you work with young people – in a college, community group or business, ITV Fixers are happy to meet up to discuss ways of working with your young people to create projects and films that will reach a wider audience. ITV Fixers is a project of the Public Service Broadcasting Trust, and is supported by v, the youth volunteering charity, the Nationwide Foundation and ITV. The first news items will be broadcast in the week of 23 June, and after an initial week of regular items there will be monthly updates for a further year. v is the youth volunteering charity launched in May 2006 whose mission is to inspire a new generation of young volunteers in England aged 16 – 25. v is supported by the Office of the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office. The Nationwide Foundation is a grant making charity set up and funded by the Nationwide Building Society. It makes grants to charities across the UK which help people in need, under specific funding criteria which is frequently reviewed by its Trustees. The Foundation works in support of its mission: to create a just and caring society by enabling people to take part in building better futures in their communities. |
