Fishing In Milton Keynes

Luckily for fishing enthusiasts there are a wide range of fishing venues in Milton Keynes, including lakes, canals, rivers and other waters. To fish legally in Milton Keynes you must first obtain a Rod License (course and trout) from the Environment Agency.

The other thing you need is a license/ticket for the particular waters in which you are fishing, Milton Keynes Angling Association offers membership which will cover you to fish in the vast majority of fishing venues in Milton Keynes, including most of the canal and surrounding areas.

In addition, Great Linford Lakes fishery boasts nine lakes and approx. 2.5 miles of river and a day ticket carp lake. General course fishing is also available. Great Linford Lakes are situated by the M1, just north of Milton Keynes.

Fishing on the River Great Ouse:

- Ravenstone Mill
approx. 1,400 yards extending 2 fields upstream of the weir and 3 down. Huge Barbel, quality chub, roach, bream, perch and pike all feature prominently at this classic fishery. Park only in the car park inside the gate. MKAA members only. No day tickets

- Bradwell Lake complex including the new Butts section (over footbridge)
800 yards of totally accessible bank offering chub to 6lb and some of the best roach fishing around. Park in car parks only. Day tickets.

- Stone Park
running for approx. 800 yards downstream of the rail vidauct. This venue regularly produces good roach nets to 30lb as well as a good head of chub to 7lb 8oz, bream, perch, dace and pike and occasional barbel. Day tickets.

- Whitings and Old Wolverton
A first class mixed fishery running 2 miles upstream of the rail viaduct. Noted for its chub, roach, perch and pike with bream to over 7lb (4-hour match record 78-0-00). The increasing barbel weights are also beginning to attract attention. Day tickets.

- Stony Ouse
Extending for approix. 1300 yards upstream of Watling Street at Old Stratford. Including Toombs Meadow, Hollands Field and Brushg Mill. There is real quality roach fishing to be had here, as well as some colossal perch to 4lb plus, and summer bream to 8lb. The weir is the upstream limit. Day tickets.

Fishing on the River Ouzel:

Over 5 miles bank in four sections: Sparkes meadow (Water Eaton Park) to the Watling Street. While Caldecotte Ouzel, City Ouzel and Willen Ouzel run continuously from A5 dual carriageway to M1. Day Tickets.

This is a real gem of a river straight out of Mr. Crabtree. Five miles of feature after feature holding cuhb to 5lb plus with quality roach and perch, recently there has been a re-emergence of some fine dace, and the odd barbel to double figures.

Fishing on the River Tove:

- Lincoln Lodge Farm, Castlethorpe approx. 1,200 yards of bank. A 'stalking' anglers dream, providing some magnificent chub and roach fishing. Park only in the signed area. MKAA members only. No day tickets.

- Long Field
approx. 800 yards of bank upstream of Castlethorpe road bridge. If you prefer to sit on a swim and bag up, this will provide you with some of the finest fishing on the Tove. Parking is difficult, but likely to be improved. MKAA members only. N.B. The traditional and legally enforced close season applies on all river venues. No day tickets.

Fishing on the Grand Union Canal:

Approx. 6.5 miles (bridges 81 to 102) fish from towpath side only. The GUC is the most underrated and underused water in the country, probably! It has produced so many MKAA records that the 'fish of a lifetime' is becoing common place. For example car 31lb 4oz, catfish 30lb 2oz, eel 9lb 3oz as well as tench to 9lb 4oz. Pike are also piling on the weight, the next MKAA record could well come from the canal. It;s last four Nationals failed to produce a single dry net! The match fraternity considers it to be one of the finest venues in the country. Day tickets.
Take particular care not to disturb residents of boats on the far bank of the Boatyard.

- Bradwell Canal
3.5 miles approx. Bridge numbers 68-76, fish from towpath side only. Excellent winter and early season fishery. Day tickets. Don't hit boats with groundbait, loosefeed or tackle. The Grand Union Canal is open all year.

Fishing at Willen Lake

Two lakes totalling approx. 150 acres. Both lakes hold shoal Bream to 8lb, with nets over 100lb regularly being recorded. Specimen Bream reach 12lb 8oz, Tench go to 9lb, carp to 32lb, while roach to 1.5lb and an abundance of skimmer Bream can make it the ideal match venue. Willen Lake South and North are open all year. Fishing at Lodge Lake

approx. 8 acres, this intimate water benefits from a close season rest. But come June 16th it will be all systems go with Tench to 7lb, Bream, Roach, Perch, Rudd and Crucians. Lodge also holds a good head of Carp, to 25lb, many taken off the top! Fishing from permanent pegs only. Parking on the H4 verga is a banning offence. N.B. The close season applies on Lodge Lake. Fishing at Furzton Lake

approx. 70 acres with 60 pegs. Probably our most prolific water with a fine head of fish including Bream and Tench to 7lb, perch to 4lb and roach to 1.5lb (some evening matches record roach nets of 40lb). Furzton holds a good head of carp to 32lb, with multiple catches over 200lb caught virtually every season. Banks A, B and C are open all year. D closed March 15th to June 15th. Day tickets.

Fishing at Teardrops

Fishing on three of the four 2 acre lakes, permanent pegs only. Carp to 24lb, tench and bream to 7lb, perch to 3lb and good head of roach along with winter chub to 4lb, make this a first class fishery. N.B. The close season applies on Teardrops, March 15th to June 15th. Day Tickets.

Fishing at Caldecotte Lake

approx. 90 acres with over a mile of bank. With roach to 3lb, pike to 30lb, double figure bream, large tench and hybrids and a good head of fine perch, and carp to mid 20's. This is a maturing venue for the specialist and match angler alike. Caldecotte Lake North is open all year. Day tickets.

Fishing at Bradwell Lake

aprox. 23 acres with 60 pegs, including 18 custom built for use by non-ambulant disabled. Lakeside parking 40/50 cars. Double figure bream, tench to 8lb, pike 28lb, perch to 4lb, catfish to 13lb with roach, crucians and rudd. Open all year. A great deal of improvement work has been carried out in recent years. Day tickets.

Fishing at Dimmocks Pit

Adjacent to gas depoit at Newton Longville is now op and running and proving to be very popular. With tench, roach and rudd plus over 1,100 recently stocked small carp. please use barbless hooks and only put small carp in keepnets if you really have to. Please co-operate with contractors who continue to improve the bank for everyone. Motorcycles must be left in the car park. Day tickets.

Fishing at Wolverton Mill

Two mini-lakes with a large head of carp to mid-doubles! An ideal venue for those new to carp fishing. Do not park in Warren Farm or adjacent to the perimeter fence. N.B. The closed season applies on Wolverton Mill, March 15th to June 16th. Day tickets.
