Surrounded By Terrorists |
We live in a world today where we fear for our lives. Whether it’s in your own home or out in the streets, constantly in our minds, is the thought that we may not be safe. On the radio and television and all over the press are stories that conjure up visions of fear and hatred in the public. Terrorist acts, as a direct result from racial hatred and unrest, we are led to believe, is widespread across the world and that there are two sides. The “goodies” and the “baddies”. Just like in the films. You know which ones are good and which are bad in the films and within ten minutes we have chosen our hero and back them all the way. The story usually follows the “goodie” and shows them as a kind person with a partner and a couple of kids, playing baseball in the park etc. etc. however, this supposed “goodie” thinks nothing of shooting up the town in a crazed and mad fashion. Killing and blowing up anything that gets in their way. This is how we as British see our soldiers. And without a doubt, that too is how our enemy sees their soldiers (their soldiers are our terrorists, and our soldiers are their invaders). Here in Britain, our “goodie’s” are the NATO forces, and the U.N. forces. A massive influence in today’s world. (I myself served with the U.N. peace keeping forces in the Balkans in the late 1990’s and have had some experience in what I am trying to explain). We British are fighting abroad because we believe that what we are doing is right. Our fathers and children alike are getting killed because they especially believe in what they are doing. They believe that they’re bringing law and order to a bunch of savages. Maybe the troops on the ground don’t think about what they’re actually doing there because all they are concerned with is staying alive. To them, the other side is the enemy, and they are there to kill them, or be killed themselves. Although our troops may not see their enemy coming. It could be the child on the bicycle ringing his bell and smiling one minute, and a suicide bomber the next. Is the lady pushing her pram along the side of the road really got a baby in there, or a load of grenades ready to hand out to the Taliban at the first sign of trouble? Not to mention the amount of cars that pass through checkpoints every day, each one of them a different threat. The terrorists are just as passionate for their own goal as we are for ours, if not more so. I personally think that we were foolish to blindly follow the Americans into battle. My biggest fear is that they may not follow this through ‘till the end, and leave our soldier stranded there alone. Without the support of Europe we would be finished, and open to attack. Don’t rule out the fact that if we can infiltrate their country, they can build up forces and invade us. There is a severe lack of man power out there to complete the mission, and already they are talking of bringing us out of Basra. It is far too soon. It is going to take a hundred years before the country is moulded into how the western world wants it. Can you see the Americans sticking to their guns? The Yanks want to be out of there as quickly as possible. Training up a force to take over so that we can leave. I don’t doubt that a minority of these policemen have a good heart, but a bribe here and a few threats there and they have been taken over by the Taliban again. The men there are just waiting for the opportunity to take the country back into Taliban rule. The Taliban soldiers have already been reported to have enrolled into this special force that are being trained by our allied forces. So that’s just great, an enemy who knows our rules of engagement and tactics. At the end of the day, couldn’t there have been a more sensible way to get Saddam Hussein out of office. A single missile or sniper could have carried out the goal within a few days. Don’t be fooled by the weapons of mass destruction excuse. The moment the allied forces entered Iraq we knew that they wouldn’t find anything. Not to mention that what we did was illegal. We are in a right mess and there is no light at the end of the tunnel as far as I can see. Surrounded by terrorists in our own country, according to our press, hated by the Europeans for breaking their laws, and putting all of our hopes in a country who are not looking at the long term involvement in the situation. This is a very dangerous position to be in and to be honest I feel bloody uncomfortable about it. How pointless this war is. How pointless any war is. People are dying. This isn’t news this is real!
