This is an opportunity to see former Royal ballet dancer, poet and performance artist Anthony Howell and his dance partner Lindi Kopke premiere an exciting new piece at Milton Keynes Gallery - a performance of the Argentinian Tango to the music of Irish composer and pianist John Field.

Howell and Kopke are committed to finding ways to refresh visual performance and dance. In order to bring the dance closer to their own musical roots, Howell and Kopke remove all reference to the Latin American origins of Tango by interpreting the works of German composer Robert Schumann and other classical composers.

The evening will begin with the consecutive showing of two short videos of Howell's performance art; Homage to the Horses and The World Turned Upside Down. After a short interval Howell and Kopke will dance a conventional Tango, followed by their homage to the Irish composer John Field, and finally Traumerei by Robert Schumann.

"Homage to the Horses" is a film of Howell's performance - The Return of the Horses to the Manege - for the 2nd International Festival of Experimental Art and Performance, held at Manege Central Exhibition Hall, Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1998. The Manege is now an exhibition hall, but it used to be the Imperial Riding School before being turned into a taxi depot. Howell brought two horses back into the building for the first time since the Revolution. The film is made entirely from hi-8 footage given to Howell by spectators.

The World Turned Upside Down choreographed and performed by Anthony Howell (with co-performer Lorna Stewart), is a film directed by Jayne Parker, first shown on BBC TV in 2002. It features top "heel to music" performing dogs.
