End of Year Crime Figures For Milton Keynes


Crime is Down in Milton Keynes Say PoliceReleased on behalf of Milton Keynes Community Safety Partnership

Crime in Milton Keynes has fallen this year by 11.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.

British Crime Survey (BCS) crimes, which equate to about 56 per cent of all crime and are those that matter most to the public, were down by 13.3 per cent.

BCS crimes include burglaries of homes, vehicle crime, criminal damage, robberies, woundings and common assaults.

Richard Solly, Community Safety Manager at Milton Keynes Community Safety Partnership, said: “The fall in overall crime figures reflects a real and sustained effort from all of our partners.

“Agencies in Milton Keynes are very good at working together at a common goal and this has paid dividends. This approach is now working effectively in the various neighbourhoods in Milton Keynes, particularly through the work of the Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs) supported by the Town and Parish Councils.

“Milton Keynes is recognised as a national leader in this area and the Partnership is determined to maintain this way of working”.

Superintendent Gez Chiariello, Local Police Area Commander for Milton Keynes, added: “The figures are very encouraging for the year and I am pleased Milton Keynes continues to become a safer place to live, work and visit.

“The fall in overall crime reflects the hard work carried out by my officers, and our partners, to make Milton Keynes an even safer place to be.

“Neighbourhood policing has been successfully rolled out across Milton Keynes under the Community Safety Partnership banner of Safer Neighbourhoods and with our communities working with us, providing intelligence about local issues we will be able to provide effective use of our resources to tackle their issues.

“Looking ahead we will continue this excellent partnership to reduce crime even further in our city.”

The crime figures for Milton Keynes for 2007/8 are:

    * Violent crimes down 1.1%
    * Burglaries down 17.4%
    * Auto crime down 25.2%
    * Other crimes down 11.2%
    * BCS crime down 13.4%
    * All crime down 11.6%
