Video Installation 22 – 26 May 2008 and Performance 24 May 2008
The unique setting of Stowe School is to provide the venue for a project by contemporary artist Sonia Boyce this May, presented as part of Milton Keynes Gallery’s Offsite Programme.
In For you, only you: A project by Sonia Boyce, the artist explores the boundary between classical music and sound art. First presented as a performance at Oxford’s Magdalen College in 2007, the work brings together the exquisite Renaissance music of Josquin Desprez (1440–1521), sung by the early music consort Alamire, with the contemporary voice of sound artist Mikhail Karikis.
A Live Music Performance of For you, only you takes place in The Chapel, Stowe School, at 6pm on Saturday 24 May 2008, providing another exciting opportunity to hear Mikhail Karikis and Alamire perform under the direction of David Skinner. Tickets for the performance cost £5 (concessions £3.50), and must be pre-booked from Milton Keynes Gallery on 01908 676 900.
Boyce’s dramatic three-screen Video Installation, created from footage of the original Oxford performance will be presented in Stowe School’s Music Room, from Tuesday 22 – Monday 26 May. The video traces a powerful matrix of musical and emotional connections between each of the performers and their audience to produce a work of startling beauty. Open daily from 10am – 5pm (except Saturday 24 May when the installation will be open from 5–6pm, an hour prior to the live performance), the video runs for 15 minutes and a system of timed entry will be in operation. Admission is free.

For you, only you: A project by Sonia Boyce is organised by the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, University of Oxford, in partnership with the De LaWarr Pavilion, Bexhill on Sea, Locus+, Newcastle upon Tyne,Milton Keynes Gallery and TheModel Arts and Niland Gallery, Sligo and with the support of Arts Council England and Magdalen College, Oxford. It is presented in association with Stowe School and Stowe Preservation Trust, Buckinghamshire.
