Question:Hi, I have several questions as we are going to the Bowl to see Robbie in September:
Where would you reccommend as a drop off point for a minibus for us to then walk to the bowl? This also needs to be a place where a car can be parked safely during the concert.
How far is Milton Keynes station from the Bowl and how long would it take to walk?
Is there plenty of parking spaces at the station?
How much is it for a days parking?
Thank you, Gail

Answer: MK station is about a 20 minute walk to the bowl. There are quite a lot of spaces around the station area, but with it being a concert they fill rather quickly. Cars can be parked over the road near Argos etc, these spaces are free still. If you were to park at the Train Station it would cost you about £3 for a daily Pass.
The Guru

Question:8 of us need to get from Bicester to Milton Keynes on Thurs 14th Sept. I have been told that we cannot get dropped off within 2 miles of the bowl? is this correct? Are there any buses/coaches/trains that we can get? What is the best way of getting there? Emily Allen

Answer: Stagecoach X5 runs from Bicester to Milton Keynes, I would think this would be your best option. The coach arrives at Central Milton Keynes and from there the Bowl is about a 20 minute walk. I assume you have been told about not being able to get dropped off near Bowl due to traffic reasons.
The Guru

The Guru

Question:im from d island of Malta. Staying at a friends house in ILFORD (ESSEX) but need to go to Milton Keynes on the 18th sept in d eve, staying in a hostel then go back to ilford after the 19th sept concert at night...How am i gonna do it? coach, rail? from which departure point? im lost mandy

Answer: Travel into Central London by overground train from Seven Kings Station in Ilford or from Gants Hill tube station on the Central line. ticket clerks will be able to tell you where to connect with the Northern Line for Euston station. From here you take the tarin to Central Milton Keynes where there will be special buses to take you to the concert- it is a bout 1.5 miles to walk along the Redways, as explained further back on my pages. You can book a ticket all the way from Ilford Seven Kings station. This is the easiest route, though you could catch a cheaper coach from Victoria to Milton Keynes and pick up a connecting bus there.
The Guru

Question:I will be arriving at Milton Keynes train station and need to get to Shirwell Crescent, Furzton. What is the best way for me to get there and are there any good hotels near that area too? Thank you. Anne

Answer: There's a bus station across the station forecourt- more like a square really. Service details are posted there. Furzton isn't that far away and a Skyline taxi (01908 222111) would be the easiest solution. Premier Lodge Hotel is in Furzton and is good value- details on our hotel link on this page.
The Guru

Question:Is there any part time modeling jobs in milton keynes?

Answer: It depends what you mean by modelling. I could advise you better if I knew your age and I am guessing that you are female. For your own safety I can only recommend that you seek out legitimate model agencies. Competition is considerable, but you may have what it takes.
London is the mecca for ambitious young models and the type of work is wide ranging, including mail order catolgoues at the less glamorous end of the market. I am sure if you placed an advert in newsagents or local press, describing yorself and that you are available for modelling work, but that would be risky and I don't advise it. Any contacts you do make, be careful and preferably take someone with you to teh interview.

You may find some useful information from apex model agency in Central Milton Keynes. E mail info@apexmodelagency.co.uk . I cannot vouch for them as I have no direct experience of them.

The Guru

Question:hi, i am 14 years old and starting year 10. i want to get a small job so i can have money of my own. is there anything i could do? is there any local paper rounds or other jobs? please help me. lindsey

Answer: There are limits to what a 14 year old is allowed to do these days. I did two paper rounds and worked on a farm at your age, driving the tractor pulling a load of hay bales. Health and safety is there to protect you from such risks these days.
However, there are still possibilities helping out in little shops and
delivering goods like newspaers. The best thing to do is to ask around your local area. You have to be careful though. There are some unscrupulous people about which is why there is so much concern about protecting children and young people. You also need to obtain a work permit- your school normally advises on that. Best to contact the education department on 08456 404040.
The Guru

Question:Hi Where is Milton Keynes? For example: South East? East Anglia? Midlands?, South.... or where? Thanks! Phil Strain

Answer: For years it's been classified as the south east, but precott's regional government has brought it into the East Anglian region.
The Guru

Question:where in london do you get a train going to milton keynes?

Answer: Euston is the station for Milton Keynes. Virgin run the inter city expresses and Silver link the local services to Blecthley which is about 4 miles from MK Central and the junction for Bedford and Milton Keynes. There are a few non stop trains to Bletchley.
The Guru

Question:How long does it take to drive to milton keynes from london? Nadine Manson

Answer: It's only around 60 miles but the traffic can be awful. I assume you wont risk speeding. You could do it in 70 minutes with luck and at the right time of day or night. If you are unlucky it could take 2 hours or longer- your precise destination will also influence the time. If you are heading to east london, for example, you could get caught up on the M25.
The Guru

Question:I need to travel from Lye, West Midlands to Thrupwarf,Cosgrove. Is there a train service from Lye to a station near Cosgrove? I will have a lift from the station to Thrupwarf. If no service is available straight through, would I have to change at Birmingham? Hope you can help. Thanks from Lynne

Answer: Take the train to Central Milton Keynes. It's about 6 miles to Cosgrove from there. A variety of services, some fast, connect at Birmingham New St.
Milton Keynes bus station is opposite the Rail station, across the square and there is also a good taxi rank.
The Guru

Question:I need a hotel near the robbie williams concert on the 15th september at milton keynes. please help as i don't know milton keynes at all.

Answer: Check the Milton Keynes Hotels page, if you need to find avalible bookings.
The Guru

Question:Im in year 11 and I'm 15 is it possible for me to get a summer job

Answer: You are old enough for part time work, subject to restrictions and you normally need a work permit. The best thing to do is to look on adevertising notice boards- you may find these in small shops or even Tesco. Local papers are not likely to carry adverts for under 16s. There may be shop, leaflet delivery or cleaning opportunities in your area. It is important that you only work for employers who are supportive of health and safety laws as there are those who will exploit young people.

The Guru

Question:Im going to see robbie williams at the bowl on 18th sept. how long should i allow to get out of car park and on to the m1 motorway after the show has finished.
Gary Clark

Answer: Depends on your luck.. There will be a lot of traffic and it can take 30 minutes to get to the M1 from the Bowl on a good day- I am assuming you'll take the A421 to junction 13. An educated and optimistic guess would be about an hour.

The Guru

Question:What is the postcode for M1 Coachway Milton Keynes? and Directions from Aylesbury Please?
Terry Green

Answer: I am not aware of the post code. It is just off Junnction 14, detailed directions further back on my pages. From Aylesbury you will either take the A418 or A413/A421 route to Milton Keynes. Follow signs for Newport Pagnell- Bedfod signs will also take you in right direction. You could follow the A 421 to the MI at junction 13 and come off again at 14. You should find it well signed. Coming up from Bletchley, aim for the hospital then on to the Bedford Road. You don't have to join the motorway, but it's
easier than fiddling out Newport Pagnell way.

The Guru

Question:Hi is there a car auction held at the Milton Keynes Bowl, if so what days and times. Thanks!!!!
Caroline

Answer: MK Motor Auctions, located at V4 Watling Street, MK Bowl Entrance. On Wednesdays and Fridays 6.30pm.

The Guru

Question:Dear Guru,

I'm from London and need to get to Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes (MK9 2EA)next Tuesday July 25 for an appointment at mid day. Megabus arrives at Milton Keynes Coachway at 11:55 and it would be too late for me. What are my other options? Which is the cheapest method of travel? Would I be better off coming over one day earlier and stay at a really budget place? If so, how much would I be looking at and what would you recommend? Sorry for the long list of questions. I look forward to your reply.

Warm regards,
Kim

Answer: National Express run from Victoria, but these days I think they drop you off at Coachways about 6 miles east of CMK and you need another bus in. Easy Bus is cheapest. They used to start from Hendon, but were running services from Central London and I think theys till are. Log on to www.easybus.com for details of bookings and bargains. They run in to CMK bus station and
city centre so take you close to Midsummer Boulevard-both stations are at the west end of it, and the shopping centre is at the east end- of a straight road.

If you want a budget palce, try Premier Lodge at Furzton- details on my pages. But if you can afford a hotel, why not run to a cheap day return on the railway, if your time allows it- because you after travel after 9.00am from Euston- and don't get out at Bletchley Milton Keynes which is about 5 miles from the centre.

The Guru

Question:What is the best route to take to drive from Oxford to Milton Keynes Central Railway Station?
Bro Michael Pooley

Answer: There are two major road route. In both cases tarvel north on the A34. At the M40 roundabout you could take the first exit on to the motorway and the next exit off- just a few miles on and signed A43. That takes you to Towcester and teh A5 Watling Street to Milton Keynes. Follow the signs for Central Milton Keynes and you will find the station clearly sign posted- near the Hockey Stadium, at the junction of Midsummer Boulevard and Grafton Gate ( V6 ). Alternatively, and in my view the easiest route is to cross the M40 roundabout, heading for Bicester.
Turn right at the next roundabout and left at the next. follow the ring road and you will see signs for the A421 Buckingham Road. Alternatively you could go straight on, running parallel to the ring road and get to teh same road, but there can be a lot of traffic and there is a funny little roundabout which skews you to the right- left takes you to Aynho. It's more direct than the ring road, effectively a straight line along the western edge of Bicester.

Once through Bicester, follow teh A421 all the way to Buckingham. The A421 is part of Buckingham ring road, so you jsut follow it all the way to Milton Keynes. You hit Milton Keynes about 14 miles from Buckingahm at the Bottle Dump roundabout. Go hard left there and follow the A421 ( called the H8 in Milton Keynes ), aiming for the city centre.Cross over the Elfield Roundabout and turn left at the next roundabout which is called Bleak Hall.
You are then on V6 Grafton St, running parallel to the A5. Cross the next two rondabouts, called Leadenhall and South Grafton and you will see CMK Station signed off to your left.

Question:hi, can you tell me if you can travel by coach from Milton Keynes to Great Yarmouth without changing in London. Many Thanks
Jackie

Answer: Before de regulation it was easy with express services calling at Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell going all the way to Gt Yarmouth in summer and Norwich in winter. I was a regular user and the service was excellent though infrequent. Frequency has improved but you have to change. You have two simple choices. You can catch the hourly service to Peterborough and change
for Gt Yarmouth or the Stagecoack high frequency express link to Cambridge and change for rail service to Cambridge and Gt Yarmouth- changing trains in Norwich for the last 23 miles. The latter is probably the most direct but takes a while with all the changes. Peterborough is a long way round. you could also travel to Stansted and get the airport express from there to Norwich and go on to Gt Yarmouth, but it's a bit awkward. I'd go to Cambridge and take the train. Phone national travel enquiries on 0845
7484950.

The Guru

Question:where is the nearest accommodation available to the Milton Keynes Bowl for the night of 19 sept 2006 please?
Fizzi

Answer: Premier Lodge, Furzton, full details further back on my pages.

The Guru

Question:is there anywhere that i can report my cat missing?
jemma brewster

Answer: There is no particular department. However, you could make some posters and distribute them in your neighbourhood- particularly in shops. Ideally the poster would include a photo as well as details and where to contact you.

If someone should ring you and say they have found your cat and have it, please take care when and where you meet to collect it as the caller may have other motives to visit your home. You could also inform local people, and delivery persons in case they have seen your cat. I doubt that you have a regular police officer in your area, otherwise s/he would be a good one to inform.

The Guru

Question:I have a history essay due Friday, but I am not sure that I will meet my deadline. I need to tell my teacher- how should I do it? Through the means of song and dance, or a note? I love you.
Colin Berry

Answer: Thanks for your amusing question. I think kies are given too many homework tasks and am inclined to quote Bob Dylan: 'Knowledge waits while teachers teach.' However, assuming that success in history is important to you, a little diplomacy is called for. Song and dance is definitely out, unless you wish to advertise a potentially lucrative act that could remove all further need for academic pursuits. Thus you have three approaches, depending on the
expected quality of your essay. You could say that you have been giving the subject a lot of thought and research and would s/he mind a little delay.

Alternatively, you could say that the subject has been so worrying and you've been plucking up courage to ask for more guidance with it. The third option would be to exaggerate the significance of some personal circumstance, such as distracting worry over a sick pet tiger. I am sure your teacher will be most understanding- they all are.

The Guru

Question:Is there any long term parking available in Milton Keynes? I'm planning to get a train from Milton Keynes Station and come back a few days later.
Nick

Answer: Long term parking causes security complcations these days and you can only do 24 hours at the station. It is also risky leaving your car unattended for several days because car crime is high in Milton Keynes.

Should you wish to take the risk, there are some bays marked in green, on ground behind teh police station site. This stripruns parallel to Portway and is accessed off Silbury Boulevard. Kebab vans and other traders tend to leave vehicles there and day workers use it, so you'll have to get in quick on departure day. Don't get a false sense of security form proximity to the police station as car crime is low priority form filling keeps them busy.

The Guru

Question:can you tell me the distance around the followig lakes;

Question:Can I get a bus or coach from MK Coachways (and where is this?) direct to London Heathrow airport? What is the timetable, travel time and return fare please?

Question:My husband and I are staying at Premier Travel Inn Milton Keynes South in August. He is going to a conference and his transportation to Bletchley Park has been arranged. Can you tell me if there is any kind of public transportation close to the hotel? We are not planning on renting a car. If there is no public transportation nearby, then what would be the best way to get from the hotel to the rail station at Bletchley? Thanks!
Karen

Answer: Public transport exists, but MK is the city designed ( stupidly perhaps ) for cars. Buses exist, but they struggle in MK. Both Bletchley and Central Milton Keynes have rail stations and taxi ranks. Not all trains stop at both of these stations and Bletchely is closest to Bletchley Park. You can catch a bus from Furzton to Bletchley Bus Station or Milton Keynes, and services do run close to Bletchley Park. The hotel will direct you to the nearest bus stop and the bus driver will be able to advise on the most convenient stop. Bletchley is not a large centre, it's an old railway town
absorbed into Milton Keynes. The bus station is the other side of the road from Bletchley rail station which is the other side of the road from Bletchley Park. The only trouble is that you have to walk away along Buckingham Road ( heading west ) to get to Shenley Road because you want the other side of the park. The park is up there to the right, almost opposite Church Green Road. If you are fit you could walk it in 20 minutes from Bletchley bus station..

Question:I'm looking for a campsite that's within walking distance of the bowl for the Robbie concert. (Got stuck in traffic at Knebworth and don't fancy that again.)
Jon

Answer: Not aware of any as close as you would like. Explorer map 192 shows all sites in the area. Also suggest you contact Cosgrove Leisure Park, Milton Keynes, MK19 7JP, phone 01908 563360. It's off the A5D and makes an easy link with teh Bowl, which is off the A5- only a few miles away. They may also know of smaller, less official sites, closer to the concert.

Question:Hi, im going to summer xcess with 2 friends nxt fri (14th july) and we are going by train, it is being held at Campbell Park Milton
Keynes, i would like to know how far from Mk station is Campbell Park, what direction we have to go, how to get there, if it walking distance from Mk station. Wud be very greatful if you can tell me thank you.
Kia Blue

Answer: It's under two miles to Campbell park from the rail station. You walk roughly east. When you exit the station, walk directly across the station square. You should pass the bus station on your right as you cross Elder Gate. Continue to the next roundabout, cross Grafton Gate and you are in Midsummer Boulevard. Keep walking staright on, passing the main shopping centre on your left. At the end of Midsummer Boulevard an underpass takes you under Marlborough Street and into Campbell Park.

The Guru

Question:Are there any jobs in Milton Keynes for 14 year olds?
Amie

Answer: There are always jobs for young people, but legal restrictions mean you need a work permit. Traditional jobs have been in news agents and other shop work. Also milk roundsmen used to employ school kids. Many of these opportunities have declined,. Health and Safety and other legal concerns have further reduced opportunities. Best thing is to keep an eye out on shop advert boards or enquire at local shops and offices. It isn't easy to
get work as a 14 year old these days.

Adult clubs will be able to give you some idea of what is available for youngsters as without encouraging youth, there'd be no

Question:hi guru! what is there for a group of 16 year olds to do i milton keynes on a saturday night other than the usual bowling and cinema rubbish!
xx

Answer: There are lots of things, but I hesitate to suggest anything to youngsters that is not wholesome clean fun! The Pitz is an interesting and fairly safe venue for young people. There are also theatre groups, like Madcap, but I think you are more interested in the social side of life.

The Guru

Question:Hi,
I've left it a bit late to get a hotel for the Robbie concert at the Bowl on September 15 and the nearest hotel that I could book was Premier Inn, 50 Luton Road, Dunstable, LU5 4LL.
I've been trying to find ways of getting to the Bowl on the Friday from the Premier Inn for the concert. I will have my car, but would rather leave it at the hotel, unless this is the only way to get there. Can you advise? One thing that I am concerned about is that, obviously, I need to be able to get back safely after the concert.
Thanks!

Answer: The full address is 350, Luton Road and there is a Virgin Coach link to the rail station- which is near the Bowl. If driving, head for Junction 13 and then take the A421, following it all the way to Elfield Roundabout, where you turn right and the Bowl is 300 yards along on the right. There is also more information further back on my pages.
