Motorcycle MOT test centre in Milton Keynes

The MOT test applies to all motorcycles, mopeds and scooters over 3 years old. The test must be carried out every year at an appointed vehicle testing station.
The purpose of the test is to check that your motorcycle is roadworthy. When your machine passes the test you'll be given a vehicle test certificate that you'll need to produce when you renew your vehicle excise licence.
Please be aware, if your motorcycle fails the test you must not ride it on the road unless you're taking it to have the faults corrected or unless you're taking it for an arranged retest.
You may book an MOT test for your motorbike, moped or scooter at a time suited to you or why not take advantage of Stratford Motorcycles “MOT While You Wait Service” available on Saturdays.

Some usefull information about Scooters and Mopeds from miltonkeynes.com

scooters ideal for milton keynesWe have had a lot of feedback about the growing traffic problems in Milton Keynes - MK, so we have looked into the quickest and cheapest way of getting you about town. Some of the younger members of the miltonkeynes.com staff recommended push bikes, these are cheap to run but you need to be fit to cycle around town.

I like the idea of more bikes in the town but I don't think you lot out there are up for it, so I have found a compromise, Scooters. They are cheap to run, easy to park and simple to use. check out these great little scooters we found from £599

A 50cc (4-Stroke) new scooter can cost as little as £499 (the price of some push bikes). Scooters are a great alternative to cars on the daily commute to work and those trips to the shop or friends

The latest 4 stroke scooters have very high miles per gallon ratio of around 70mpg. Combined with the low emissions, this makes 4 stroke scooters the most eco-friendly choice for commuters.

Pros and cons for getting a moped/scooter

Here is a list of all the pros and cons of why getting a moped or scooter in an around Milton Keynes would or would not be a good idea. The list has been created by the rider of a 50cc moped:

Pros

  1. There very cheap to buy, cheap to run on petrol and oil and get great mileage, cheap for insurance, road tax and MOT and cheap to maintain for repairs etc
  2. Economical and ideal for town life like MK. A 50cc which does around 45-50 mph is probably the lowest in speed you can get but is surprisingly enough, even on the V and H roads of Milton Keynes 45-50 mph generally keeps with the flow of traffic nicely. And if when there is the odd vehicle that wants to overtake you then as soon as you see there is no on coming traffic move a little to the left to allow the vehicle to pass
  3. They're nice and easy to ride (just rev and go) As you can imagine in the summer it's warm enough to ride in a t-shirt. It's better to have an open helmet to enjoy the fresh air especially in summer with Mlton Keynes' lush green and often flowery V and H roads
  4. As long as you know what clothes to wear and how to wrap-up the cold and rainy weather will not be a problem. A good tip is to wear ski gloves, they're very flexible and warm
  5. They're easy to park, you can park them almost anywhere (like with cycles in bike sheds etc) and they can be parked in tight spaces where cars couldn't and you never have to pay for parking meters
  6. Traffic congestion in Milton Keynes is not a problem for a moped. If you ever did get caught up you'll find there's always plenty of room through the centre of the congestion and MK does have its congestion problems
  7. They''re environmentally friendly, being no where near as harsh on pollution as a car

Cons

scooters ideal for milton keynes
  1. You won't feel as safe on a moped as you would in a car. In the rain you have to go especially slow round corners so as not to slip and you have to beware of slippery road grids
  2. If it's pouring you have to spend time putting on waterproofs. With an open helmet you might want to wear shades to prevent getting a fly in your eye
  3. Mopeds are no good for traveling or long distances. Engine will overheat if driven to far
  4. There is a limit of only one passenger and although you can go shopping on a moped your carrying capacity is limited
  5. You have to spend more time locking them up as you would do a car

Other useful information

If you can, park your moped in shelters away from the rain and overnight in a garage if you have one, this will prevent rust. Make sure you use a solid chain or reliable lock wherever you go coz mopeds can be stolen easily. When you hear of motorbike accidents that's exactly what they are, accidents on motorbikes not mopeds or scooters.
Because of a mopeds limited speed the riders risk factor is greatly reduced. Wearing a pair of shades is good enough protection against flies but if you're worried that a stone might flip up from a car wheel and shatter your glasses either get a pair of plastic shades or motorbike goggles. You might want to look into finding out if it would be better on getting a 2 stroke than a 4 stroke. because they're smaller cleaning is easier. If your looking for a cheap Moped check out the Motoring section of the Citizen Newspaper or Ebay. You could buy one for as little as £300.00 or under.

Road tax is as follows

  • 50cc - 150cc = £15
  • 150+cc - 250cc = £40
  • 250+cc and upwards = £65

The insurance quotes for a scooter unlike cars, scooter insurance is seen on the whole as quite reasonably priced. For a Third Party Fire & Theft (TPF&T) policy on a 100cc scooter, expect to pay between £30 (for riders aged 40+) to around £150 a year (for riders aged under 19).
Fully Comprehensive insurance is usually double that of TPF&T.

Speed capabilities are an issue when considering where you will be riding your scooter. In a mainly urban setting, a 50cc scooter offers everything you need. Obviously on motorways, a bigger scooter is recommended.

Before using a scooter on any public roads, riders must obtain a Compulsory Basic Training certificate. This is a legal requirement. CBT starts from scratch and is intended to introduce absolute beginners to riding. The course covers:

  • scooters ideal for milton keynesRoad Safety
  • Introduction to the bike
  • Maneuvering and Parking
  • Slow Control
  • Road Practice
  • Compulsory Skills
  • On the Road
  • Assessment for further testing/training.

What to wear

The law requires that when using a scooter on public road riders must wear a helmet. There are no other legal requirements for clothing when riding a scooter in the UK. Despite this, we recommend wearing a moderately protective jacket for warmth. Wind can be deceptively chilly even on mild days, especially at speed. Gloves are also highly recommended for both comfort and safety.

Holders of Full Bike license

Ride any bike you like, but scooters are so much easier to ride and look after.

So if you like the sound of a much cheaper way to get around town, avoid all the hassle of traffic and the madness of trying to find a parking space, we highly reccommend these very affordable and stylish little scooters...£599 SCOOTERS
