Never Forget Review by Karen Brain |

The band consists of an unlikely bunch of wannabe’s, all looking for a route to stardom for very different reasons: Ash Sherwood is the aspiring singer/songwriter (alter ego: Gary Barlow), who plans to wed his girlfriend Chloe, and save his mum’s pub from financial disaster. Ash’s bezzie’ mate happens to be Chloe’s brother, Jake ‘the face’ Turner, (alter ego: Robbie Williams), a cocky, but witty ‘wannabe’ ladies man. Adrian Banks (alter ego: Mark Owen) is a geeky and introverted bank manager, desperately looking for a hobby and a way to capture his adulterous wife’s attention. Dirty Harry (alter ego: Howard Donald) is a slightly dim but endearing stripper who ‘only wanted to dance for a living’, and is desperate to get outta’ the strip joints and regain his self-respect. Joze Reize (alter ego: Jason Orange) is a Spanish immigrant who has come to England to escape the clutches of his overbearing mother and make something of himself! The boys bond and attempt to learn their new trade with great enthusiasm and much fun! However, too much temptation lays in the path of Ash who is swayed by the offer of a singular career and the promise of ‘ten grand up front’ by blonde bombshell and record executive Annie Borrowman. As the lads’ friendship and loyalty is tested we are entertained with lots of high energy dancing and singing, and intermittent spells of sentiment. The script is funny and had the audience whooping out loud in parts, particularly during the ‘professional versus amateur dancers’ dance off routine – a funny mix of amateur ‘thriller’ moves mixed with some serious breakdancing – all wonderfully executed! In fact the dancing and choreography in this show is something I was truly wowed by! In parts, reminiscent of a real concert, there were a lot of ladies dancing in their seats throughout the evening. This show is packed with everyone's favourite hits, including the number one smashes like Relight My Fire, Pray, Back for Good, Babe and of course, Never Forget. The singing was spectacular and the band were great, (although somewhat too loud on occasion) and the whole audience were up on their feet and singing along with honest hearty enthusiasm for a fabulous evenings entertainment!!! In fact, this is definitely one show I’d see again… that is, if I can get a ticket! by Karen Brain |
