Members of the Somali Youth of Milton Keynes, MK Somali ladies Group and members of MK Somali Projects were invited to attend the event by Thames Valley Police’s Prevent Engagement Officer Azhar Hafeez.
The event took place at R.A.F Weston on the Green in Oxfordshire and was well attended. Despite the rain, the Somali children got involved with most of the events on offer and had their faces painted and took rides in the police cars and exchanged views with Thames Valley Police officers about their roles in the community.
The money raised at the event went to the Care of Police Survivors charity. The Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, Sarah Thornton was there as the guest of honour and spent time with the MK Somali Ladies group representative, Ladan Ismail and MK Somali projects member Abshir Hertze discussing their projects.
Azhar Hafeez, Prevent Engagement Officer for Milton Keynes said: “The event helped to build better relations with members of the Somali communities in Milton Keynes and Thames Valley Police. It was a really enjoyable day out and the groups who attended from MK enjoyed talking with the Chief Constable. Part of my role is to ensure all the communities in Milton Keynes feel engaged with what the police are doing and this was a great way to strengthen that relationship further.”
