Moon Water - A review by Wendy Brett |
The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan performs this evening in a one off show as part of the Dance consortium, which is a group of theatres in the UK that is committed to the development of audiences for international dance.Choreographed by Lin Hwai-min, the performance was a sheer joy to behold. The control and grace of movements by the dancers was second to no other dancing I have ever seen, it was Taiwan’s answer to River Dance. It was an elegant mixture of Tai Chi, martial arts and modern dance; the movements were slow and controlled yet powerful and very deeply moving. The stage was flooded with water and the first few rows wish they had brought their umbrellas. The audience was held spell bound right till the end. The lighting was subtle and dramatic where needed and it time with the dancers. A single haunting cello performed the various Suites. A must for any dance lover the control of movement alone is simply breath taking. ~ Wendy Brett. |
