Glastonbury father Michael Eavis, musician Peter Gabriel and number one selling band, scouting for girls get together at the famous real world studios in the ongoing search for new unsigned live talent Friday 2nd May 2008 Yesterday, Michael Eavis and Peter Gabriel joined Scouting for Girls in a spectacular press conference and impromptu acoustic gig to publicise RockStar 08, a competition to discover the UK biggest new talent in the world of music. The legends gathered together with a number of music luminaries and select members of the press at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios to talk about and answer questions about this amazing new competition taking place this year. The guests were also treated to an amazing acoustic set by Scouting for Girls, a chance to pose questions to both Eavis and Gabriel, and exclusive Real World Studio tours. RockStar 08 will offer an opportunity for the best new talent in the UK to pit themselves against each other and impress these icons, and some of the most influential people in the music industry, in the hopes of winning an enviable prize. The prize includes an amazingly sought after recording session in Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, a live set at Michael Eavis’ famed Equinox Party and a set at Glastonbury 2009.
Scouting for Girls themselves got their big break after entering a competition in Pilton to play at Glastonbury, ironically they did not win first prize, however Roy, the lead singer commented We played the Pilton Working Men’s Club, we only found out we had got into the competition 3 weeks before and it was the first time we had played together so we were a bit rubbish. Even so we have played Glastonbury the last couple of years and we’ve had a really great timeThe competition is open to all, bands, solo artists, young, and old, the only criteria is to be unsigned. The judges are looking for undiscovered live talent who will become the next big thing. Peter Gabriel said of the competition’ “It is a lot harder [for musicians] now, you have still got to be noticed and there is lot less opportunity for bands to go out and play live, so I think [RockStar 08] it is great opportunity, so I was happy to get involved.”He went on to say “People have got used to Pop Idol and that sort of thing, but what provides long careers for artists is the ability to write and perform and there has never been that focus [in a competition] before” Michael Eavis quite simply added, “ We are always looking for new talent [for Glastonbury].” The competition will kick off after 24 bands have been
selected from the entries received (via
www.rockstarbands.co.uk) by an experienced panel of judges to
take part in the live heats (1st & 2nd and 22nd & 23rd
August 2008) at Pilton Working Men’s Club. From these
live heats finalists will go through to try and impress the
judges at live final on 5th September 2008. The live final will
take place at the famous Pilton Party in front of 1500 regular
party goers where one act will crowned RockStar 08 and play
alongside Scouting for Girls. Entries must be in before the closing date of 27th May
2008. |
