New Labour is Failing and Will Lose Next Election Says Charles Clarke

Wednesday, 05 March 2008 12:49

Charles Clarke might be accused of Brown nosing now that he has voiced regret for making negative comments about the Prime Minister. He believes he may have damaged the government and the Labour Party. Nonsense, you are a proper Charlie if you believe that Mr Clarke. Brown has damaged himself. The only people who thought he was a good chancellor were those he helped to make rich. Cheap credit, porn and booze distracted the rest.

Clarke was speaking at a Norwich Labour Party function, the former home secretary and city MP, was forced from office because his office was failing, He said he had fallen into a media “trap” on more than one occasion in talking in what he thought were “candid terms” about the political landscape. If he doesn’t realise that speaking candidly to the media will lead to a story, he is a fool. He hasn’t said he was lying when he criticised the government, so what is he saying? Obviously the main thing upper middle class New Labourites like Clarke worry about is their jobs. That is why he lashed out at Mr Brown. After all, he was happy enough until he became a backbencher.

He told his captive audience that “the dissatisfaction” he felt was not about Mr Brown's decision to leave him on the back benches but

“about the sense that Labour is not rising sufficiently to meet the very competitive political challenges of the moment”.

Norwich’s retail trade is booming- there is even a shopping centre under the castle mound, but the region is relatively poor with cheap immigrant labour vital to agriculture.

Clarke was clearly annoyed about losing his ministerial perks. It may be true that he was no worse than all the other New Labour Home Secretaries were. The blustering John Reid spouted a load of rubbish a bout the Home Office not being fit for purpose when he took over. Well actually it was very fit for New Labour’s purpose of letting in as much cheap labour and New Labour voting fodder as it could. The only problem was it wasn’t good at covering up what it was doing.

He admitted to the meeting that he

“ had publicly attacked the current Prime Minister and his leadership qualities very negatively”.

He added:

“The negativity in those interviews is damaging for the Labour Party and government that I have worked to achieve, and for me and for us here in Norwich, and so I regret it.”

Maybe it was, but it should be apparent to anyone by this time that it is New Labour policies that have created and now revealed the terrible damage that New Labour’s politically correct social engineering has done to this country, along with the crazy economics that have made city slickers so very rich. Most of us have forgotten humbug Clarke’s contribution, along with all the rest of the party’s failed ministers. The party would have been kicked out at the last election if it hadn’t been for the BBC and News International.

Clarke referred particularly to adverse comments made about Gordon Brown in two interviews in September 2006 and further statements made in two interviews this month.“It is my fear that the consequence of this failure will be serious for the country as Labour fails to win the next general election,” he said. Is Clarke saying that by pricking the balloon that is Gordon Brown, he has created serious consequences for this country? Self-importance is a New Labour trait. Clarke’s true meaning seems to be much as it was when he first criticised the party leadership.

He wraps it up a bit, but he told the meeting:

“I share the frustration of others”

he emphasised

“that Labour does not seem to be doing enough to offer real solutions to major problems Nor is the party able to convey the confidence and authority in government which will bring back voters and convince people that Labour has the capacity to overcome these challenges.”

No it doesn’t, so if the Tories don’t get their act together there will be little hope. It has to be remembered that the Tories were the original vile, society doesn’t exist’ money grabbers . And we don’t think they have improved. The best thing that can be said a bout them, they don’t seem so hot on social engineering. The real problem is not the party in power but that they are nowadays completely unaccountable as their jobs for the boys and gals, cash for honours and donor scandals attest
