Northampton man pays cost of causing trouble at football match

A Northampton man has been given a three year football banning order and made to pay a fine, costs and compensation by Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court after being arrested at Milton Keynes Dons Football Club.

John James Harwood, aged 24, from Spencer Road, Long Buckby Northampton, was arrested at the JP Trophy football game between Milton Keynes Dons FC and Northampton Town FC on 10 November 2009.

Harwood was charged and appeared at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (5/1), where he pleaded guilty to the offence; Section 4 of Football Offences Act 1991 (Pitch Incursion).

He has been ordered to pay £400 in fines, costs and compensation.

PC Jimmy O’Brien, Football Liaison Officer, said: “This is just one example to show that MK Dons FC and Thames Valley Police will not tolerate this type of behaviour from anyone attending any football matches in Milton Keynes and anyone who chooses to act in this way will be dealt with robustly and they will have to face the consequences of their actions.”
