Nursery Schools, Playgroups and Pre-Schools

Best start for a child's life

Do you want the best start in life for your child?  A silly question to ask a caring parent – of course you do!

Waiting until school age is one approach to the start of learning.  Another is to prepare your child for school.  This can be done by enrolling your child in a good nursery.  Good caring pre-school childcare cannot be disregarded; nor can the welfare of your child.

The benefits of good nurseries to children are myriad.  Good childcare allows a parent to work while providing an excellent pre-school education in a good nursery for the child, as well as caring for their welfare.

Services offered by modern childcare nurseries can vary in nature, but they build upon the foundation of creativity through play fostered by the pre-school playgroup.  Nowadays a good nursery or playgroup may address children's care and learning from as early as six weeks to five years of age.

Obviously caring for young children covering such a range is impossible without a nursery specialising in varying ages.  A six week old baby's welfare may be at risk in the company of nursery children almost ready for school.  Likewise, the pre-school child will find their development stymied by being kept in the company of nursery babies to the exclusion of mixing with their developmental peers.  A good nursery or playgroup will emphasis their quality of childcare through a caring understanding of their requirements.

Choosing a good nursery or playgroup

The questions fall into 'who?' 'what?' 'where?' and 'why?'  Although 'why?' falls naturally at the end of the list of questions, it is best to ask it first.  This is probably the most important part of the search for a good nursery to a child's parent.  Why entrust one's child to who are effectively strangers, at such an early age?  Is the potential benefit of good pre-school care really worth it?  Most parents will probably consider that any good childcare that helps their children to get on in life is good.

If it means placing a child in a good nursery or playgroup to get that head start in life, and a parent can work at providing for that child, then it has to be a good thing.  Once, 'why' is addressed, the parent can get on with the, 'who?' 'what?' and 'where?' questions surrounding good childcare.

'Where?' is the next question that helps with making a meaningful decision.  Reputation or recommendations are nothing without knowing the location of a good childcare nursery.  The only time 'where?' might not be such an issue is when a parent intends to move to where a suitable nursery is located.  Not entirely practicable – especially when having to consider transporting a child or children, seeking to maximise their welfare and safety.

'What?' may come next in a question such as,'What am I doing?'  What the parent is doing is attempting to furnish their child with a future based upon a solid start in life through placement in a good children's nursery providing good childcare.

Finally, 'who?' is asked.  While it may come last, it is probably the most important question to a child's loving parent.  Who is providing good childcare?

The question of 'who' will look after one's child is not one that is answered lightly.  Further questions have to be considered such as, 'What age groups are catered for?'  'Is the nursery or playgroup caring, clean and safe for my child?'  'Is the duration of the nursery sessions adequate for the parent to do what they wish to do during their child's preparation for schooling?'

The nursery and education

It is sometimes said that once a baby becomes a toddler, they become a learner.  The truth is that children learn from the moment they are born..The learning appears more structured and precise as they grow up and a good nursery is a great way to promote its introduction to a child through good childcare.

If a child is taught without having been exposed to structured learning as a nursery can offer, then that child may find itself lagging behind its peers while it makes sense of the information suddenly foisted upon him or her when they attend school.

Childcare has come a long way from the early years of creativity through play.  Through attending a good children's nursery a child can be prepared for the more structured learning of older children through such exposure to the methodology employed by the education system.

Benefits of a good nursery

A child learning through acquisition is fine for those parents who are happy for their child to develop at their own pace.  A child learning at an accelerated speed due to their being shown things in a good nursery rather than merely acquiring what passively surrounds them, has to be a good thing for the parents wanting their child to be well prepared for that good start in life.  In addition a safe child will be a happy child with caring parents.
