A few words........about Conniburrow Sure Start Centre, Conniburrow, Milton Keynes. Sure Start Children's Centres are at the heart of the Government's Change for Children programme, providing a central role in improving the Every Child Matters outcomes for all young children. Conniburrow Sure Start Centre was designated as a Sure Start Centre in June 2007. At that time the Centre was functioning from the family room in Germander Park School. The Centre provides a welcoming environment and offers a range of co-located and integrated services not only to the Conniburrow community and those living in the local areas but welcomes all communities in Milton Keynes. The services include health care, social support, training and links to the schools in the area through the Extended Schools programme with a qualified teacher support on site. The Centre has been responsible for the formation of the CMK African Women's group, co-hosting the Conniburrow Community Fun Day, participating in the delivery of English classes to the identified communities, adult education, parenting, advice with debt, benefits, tax credit and finding childcare. The Centre supports registered childminders in the area and a Polish mother and baby group in their sessions. The Centre offers exciting opportunities for babies and children to explore and learn through the use of high quality toys and activities while the toy library facilities offer the chance for parents and carers to borrow resources to use at home and so extend learning opportunities. Health advice sessions run by health visitors and midwives are well attended and supported by the Oral Health and Public Health departments of MK Primary Care Trust. Now, in its new purpose built centre Conniburrow Sure Start Centre has embarked on extending its services further working collaboratively with partners, stakeholders and above all the community. The Centre, through strong working partnerships with all the services providers within voluntary, statutory or charitable organisations raises awareness of the cultural and social richness of the communities in Milton Keynes encourages and facilitates the bringing together of all their expertise and knowledge. The launch of the Women of the World event from Conniburrow Sure Start Centre in December 2007 was the first step in this direction. Conniburrow Sure Start Centre thinks differently, its embraces evolution and looks forward to championing change in creating an environment where children and their families, young people and communities are empowered to achieve the best possible physical, personal, educational and social outcomes.
