Thames Valley Police in Milton Keynes having been committed to providing a high level of service during the recent adverse weather conditions to all residents, but especially those who are elderly and vulnerable.
Officers received a call from a blind, 77-year-old woman yesterday (7/1) who reported she was running out of credit on her heating and also running out of food, but could not leave her house and had no close relatives or friends to help her.
Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Mark Weatherstone and Tom Knight attended Clare Anderson’s address in Bletchley, provided reassurance, topped up her credit for the gas supply and also went to the local supermarket to get her enough food to last her the next few days.
PCSO Weatherstone returned to visit Mrs Anderson today (8/1), along with the Crime Reduction advisor, to provide further reassurance and ensure she had everything she needed. PCSO Weatherstone has also arranged to visit Mrs Anderson along with Milton Keynes Council to see what support can be provided in the future.
Neighbourhood Inspector Iain McIlwain, said: “At this time of year, especially during the adverse weather we are experiencing some of our residents may need additional support.
“At this time of year communities need to stick together, help each other out and I ask residents to think of those more vulnerable than themselves, pop round and make sure they are okay, check if they need anything such as food or just some company.”
