arsonThames Valley Police in Milton Keynes are appealing for witnesses after an arson at a new play area on Saturday (10/7/2010).

Just before 9pm, an arson was reported at the new play area on Downs Barn park near Dansteed Way. Fire damage has been caused to a climbing net where the netting has been completely destroyed and only the poles remain.

Four young men were seen leaving the area around the time of the offence and police want to speak to these young men in connection with the fire. They were all seen wearing tops in varying shades of blue.

PC Sam Lake, investigating, said: “The area was recently built for local children to come and enjoy and the area is lucky to have such a facility.

“The damage to the play equipment will cost money to repair, money that is not always freely available, but luckily due to the quick response by the fire service the damage was minimised.

“This kind of behaviour is not only dangerous, but is selfish and mindless. It is taking away the enjoyment for the children who live locally and this will not be tolerated. I urge anyone with information to contact me or Crimestoppers.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to contact PC Lake at Milton Keynes police station via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to the police, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
