The incident happened some time between 2.30pm on Wednesday (16/9) and 9am on Thursday (17/9). Orange spray paint was used to daub several Swastikas on the pathway, walls, trees and benches leading to the multi faith cemetery in Church Street.
Chief Inspector Simon Eatwell, deputy Local Police Area Commander, said: “This is a multi-faith cemetery so we don’t believe this act was directed at any one group in particular. However I would like to assure residents that we are treating this seriously and we would ask anyone with information about this incident to contact us.
“The offensive graffiti was removed very quickly by the council and officers from the neighbourhood team will be concentrating patrols on the area to prevent any repeat incidents.”
