Richard Woods at The Gallery MK
I got down to the Gallery at 4.30pm which was the starting time of the preview for the viewing of Richard Wood’s art. Not being to an event like this before I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I know my enjoyment levels were heightened because of all the free food and drink and because the actual artist Richard Woods was available on hand to chat or take any questions from those present at the event. A lot of people turned up for the preview. Obviously Richard won't be on hand for the public at the Gallery in the future but if you would like a guide to walk you through the Gallery, then when you are there make a request for a staff member to take you round coz I asked them and they said they would be more than happy to guide anyone through the art.
Art classes available
Katie Smith it was that took me on a little guided tour round the work. She was lovely, helpful and when it came to the art, definitely knew what she was talking about, although to be honest a lot of it went over my head. Katie was telling me there are techniques you can use to become familiar with the art. So when the creators work has deep levels of meaning when you're adept you'll have a much better chance of being able to interpretative and will come away with much more. Like they say "the feeding of the soul". But how do you get these techniques? I hear you say. Ahh! well then. While I was at the Gallery I found out there are classes going on that specialize in teaching people to use techniques and help see meaning in an artist's vision, understand where the artist is coming from and maybe understand why he or she did it. To find out more about these classes contact the Gallery at: 01908 676900
Naughty or complimentary
When you visit the Gallery you'll see that the art starts on the outside of the Gallery building which is adorned with made up logos. To me the art of Richard Woods wasn't about having deep meanings, it was about being striking to the eye, a visual treat. There was meaning in the logos. In other words Richard bringing to our attention that the Gallery being funded stands because of these company’s that fund them. You could view this as being a bit naughty of Richard or complimentary. It was a nice evening in all with a great selection of drink and Hors d’oeuvre.
