Schoolgirl wins Gallery's Free Prize Draw

Beth SmithBeth SmithTwelve year old Beth Smith was the lucky winner of Milton Keynes Gallery's Free Prize Draw held in association with the recent Richard Woods exhibition. The Prize was a fabulous bean bag covered in fabric designed by the artist, Richard Woods, and which currently retails at around c.800 Euros. The three fabric designs by Richard Woods are shown to the right.

Beth, a pupil of Fulbrook Middle School, Woburn Sands, was with her mum on her way to meet friends at Milton Keynes Theatre, when she was attracted by the striking Richard Woods artwork 'Flora & Fauna' on the gallery exterior and decided to drop in. Woods' work crosses the boundaries between art, architecture and design, and his exhibition featured a range of brightly coloured hand-printed woodcut works, including flooring, paintings and sculptures. The foyer area included three bean bags covered in fabric designs by Woods, and were available for public use during the exhibition.

Beth says she was thrilled to win the bean bag and has chosen the Crazy Paving design, which Richard Woods is currently making up to order for her. Pupils and staff at Fulbrook Middle School were equally pleased for her, as the school has an "Arts Mark" Gold award issued by Arts Council of Great Britain for its high quality of music, visual and performance arts both curricular and extra curricular.

The gallery is currently closed for changeover, but reopens on Saturday 18 October with an exhibition by the distinguished Italian artist Gilberto Zorio. Admission is free, and the Gallery will be running another Free Prize Draw competition for visitors during the Zorio exhibition.
