Something to think about

galxies and stars

The earth is rotating at just over 1000 miles an hour. (One revolution is one earth day) The earth’s orbital speed around the sun is about 18.5 miles per second. (One revolution is one earth year). The earth, as well as the solar system is rotating around the centre of our galaxy (which is a spiral type and the arm which we are situated is called the Orion arm, if you gaze toward Orion in the night sky, you are looking outwards from the centre of our galaxy), at about 132 miles per second, and takes 240 million years to do one revolution. (This period is called a cosmic year). The galaxy is moving away from the centre of our universe at 360 miles per second, and increasing.

There is nothing that we know of that could travel faster than the speed of light, which is 186,000 miles per second ish (incomprehensible I know). People think that somehow in the future we will be able to travel to another galaxy. The nearest galaxy to us is called Andromeda. It is 2.2 million light years away from us, but can be seen with the naked eye. Our galaxy (the milky way) and Andromeda are closing in on one another at a rate of about 670,000 miles per hour. So, if we were to travel at the speed of light, it would still take 2.2 million years to get there, and them too us. (How many grand children away is that?).

The size of our universe is more than 93 billion light years across.

Many cosmologists think that we have many universes, and have called it the multiverse. This has come from a series of “big bangs” happening time and time again. Ever expanding, ever accelerating at an alarming rate, not slowing, like the experts once thought.

The wonders of the world we live in are amazing, and mind boggling. There is so much to learn and so little time to learn it. We should quit the fighting and killing, and take a look at the bigger picture, the wonders of the multiverse are there for all to see (well maybe not the multiverse, or even half the universe we, at the moment are limited with our technology). No one has claimed it (yet), all you need is a pair of binoculars and a star map and you will have the journey of your life.

Leave the crappy T.V. shows alone, start finding out about stuff. Things that you may think are important are not. For the last five or ten years I have had a thirst for knowledge, difficult to comprehend at first, but is slowly sinking into my tiny brain. Stuff is starting to make sense, although there are a lot of theories out there, some believable, and some not.

Just remember that people thought that the earth was flat, and now we know that it is also on the back of a few elephants and in turn on the back of a massive turtle swimming through the multiverse looking for its mate. i.e. the big bang. (Sorry, I just love Terry Pratchet’s work).

Who knows what we will discover next. Maybe we aren’t evolved enough, and maybe we are. Perhaps the answer to all of our questions will be a let down, but I can’t imagine it could be.

I would like to hear about your own theories, Theories that have been influenced, as little as possible by our well known quantum theorists and physicists. Your thoughts are important to the continuing of fresh ideas. It is important that we start to understand ourselves, and put petty politics behind us for a while and leave that garbage for those who want to lie and cheat. Life isn’t about money, it’s about having a reason for doing what it is we do, and we are all natural explorers, doesn’t matter what country you come from, the distances between us are small compared to the vast open spaces of what surrounds us.

Gibbo.
